Winner - Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust
The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust was established in 1994 on the island of Mull. Funded by donations, grants and shop sales, the main aim is to raise awareness of whales and dolphins off the west coast of Scotland and the threats they face. The organisation runs a Marine Discovery Centre which is open all year and provides an educational facility, offering a varied programme of informative and entertaining events, as well as a valuable employment and training opportunity. The Trust works closely with local schools and the wider community as well as contributing to scientific research at national and international level. There is a strong awareness within the Trust of the needs and benefits of recycling and they are keen to involve the community in their efforts. The Trust have established an extensive and successful multi-media website.

Finalist - Finlaystone Country Estate
Finlaystone Country Estate is a good example of a strong partnership of owners, staff and environmental agencies working successfully with and for the public. Established in 1976, the gardens and woodlands of the estate are maintained and designed to enable the public access and enjoyment but not in such a way as to compromise the natural environment. Recycling is an important element of the management plan and environmentally sympathetic practices also apply to the buildings on the estate, i.e. the solar panels in the tearoom. There is an excellent programme of events running throughout the year which cover a wide range of subjects and illustrate an ongoing effort to meet public needs and cater for their interests.

Finalist - Glenmachrie Guest House
Glenmachrie Guest House demonstrates the clear advantages of embracing eco-tourism as fundamental to their marketing strategy. A sound knowledge of the natural environment is paramount to this family run guest house. The mixed farm surrounding the house is managed to encourage and sustain a wide variety of wildlife and their habitats. A warm welcome and attention to detail with regard to the adoption of environmentally sound principals are of prime importance. Products and material used within the guest house are chosen for their minimal impact on the environment. Glenmachrie is a good example of a successful business, which is conscious of the need to sustain the natural environment for future generations.
