Scottish Thistle Awards 2000 - Winners - Business Tourism Initiative Winner - Edinburgh International Conference Centre Since its opening in 1995, the EICC has established itself as one of Scotland's leading conference venues, attracting a global reputation for its facilities and standard of service and generating over 60m in economic benefit for Edinburgh and in turn Scotland. Its marketing campaign has evolved as the Centre has matured and results show more than 800 events attracting 275,000 delegates, with confirmed bookings until 2007. With extensive and varied marketing mediums, the EICC has generated additional business from international markets and has played a pivotal role in boosting the city''s position in the international meetings market rankings to 13th. Within the UK, Edinburgh has now overtaken London as a preferred conference destination. The marketing objectives for the launch of these services were clearly set out, as were the market segments to be targeted and the anticipated business volumes and revenue. The results of the activity were equally clearly demonstrated and targets were comfortably exceeded. Finalist - The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre was opened twelve years ago as a visitor attraction and has become and established part of Edinburgh''s tourist scene. More recently the Centre has added corporate hospitality to the services it offers. The successful development and promotion of these corporate hospitality facilities were extensively assessed as a learning experience. The application was also very strong on research and could point to measurable results.
