2000 - Information Technology Initiative

Scottish Thistle Awards 2000 - Winners - Information Technology Initiative

Winner - Clach Mhuillin B&B
The owners of the Clach Mhuillin, a small B&B in Inverness, clearly recognised the benefits that internet retailing can have on the tourist industry. They then set out to understand the technology that would enable them to develop their own site. This they have achieved, and have built a well laid out site that displays the attractions of their establishment. They have supplied information regarding local attractions and provided links where available. They have carried out good investigative work and analysed the sources of searches in order to determine the overall effect on the business. This entry demonstrates well what can be done with a bit of hard work and a limited budget.

Finalist - Loch Torridon Country House Hotel
The owners of Loch Torridon have set out to market their establishment in an exciting and professional manner. They have developed a very attractive web site that shows the facilities of the hotel and its surroundings in a novel and interesting way. The innovative preparation of a CD helps give the hotel high exposure in areas such as travel agency trade shows etc. The effect that the web site and CD are having on the business is being carefully monitored to ensure maximum exploitation of the marketing technique. The owners also recognise the need for continual upgrade of the web site.

Finalist - The Town House Company: eTV Interactive
The Town House Company have very clearly determined how PC and Internet facilities can be provided to their customers in an easy-to-use yet unobtrusive manner. The combination of business tools and electronic leisure facilities creates a unique offering that few of their competitors can match. They are using this facility to successfully capture a larger share of the profitable corporate market where hi-tech tailored presentations to staff or customers are required. They have also put a great deal of work into ensuring that such modern equipment does not detract from the ambience of that would be expected from a first class hotel.
