Tourist Board Training (TBT) was formed in 1994 with the aim of meeting and exceeding the expectations of customers through the people who work in all sectors of the tourism industry.
TBT aims to develop and co-ordinate innovative, flexible and sustainable training opportunities, to support the tourism industry and VisitScotland/TIC staff in enhancing their skills and knowledge.
Our Learning and Development Programmes are delivered through a national network of private training providers and in partnership with key stakeholders across the education, tourism and training sectors, including LearnDirect Scotland and Scottish Qualifications Authority. The project is part funded by the European Social Fund.

Wildlife Tourism Training Scotland’s natural heritage is one if its most important tourism assets, but visitors need high quality information and advice to help them enjoy it. Day one helps you guide visitors to wildlife and natural heritage resources in your local area, and tells you how to access up-to-date information from local and national resources. Ancestral Tourism Training Developed to recognise the increasing number of ‘ancestral tourists’ coming to Scotland to trace their ancestors, this one-day course has been developed for people working in the ‘frontline’ of tourism, providing information to visitors to make their stay more enjoyable. It gives participants an introduction to Scotland’s ancestral tourism initiative and equips them with the skills and knowledge to provide advice and assistance to ancestral tourists locally. Cairngorms Connections Cairngorms Connections (CC) is a specially designed course, to provide information about the tourism product in Cairngorms National Park (CNP). It is aimed at staff, management and owners of local tourism businesses and other visitor-facing organisations, and has been designed as a half-day, (3 hour), classroom-based course. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Product Knowledge Workbook (Open learning) Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park (LLTNP) is Scotland’s first National Park. This workbook is newly developed for tourism operators in and around the National Park, who receive questions about the Park from visitors. Professional Development Award (PDA) in Visitor Attraction Operations The PDA: Certificate in Visitor Attraction Operations has been developed specifically for those people employed within a Visitor Attraction. It was designed in partnership with the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA) to raise standards and provide staff with a Scottish Qualifications Authority nationally recognised qualification and encourage career development. Sailing and Watersports Welcome Sailing and Watersports Welcome has been developed to recognise this growing market and to ensure that all marine leisure and tourism operators are maximising the potential benefits to their business. At the same time meeting the needs of the sailing and watersports visitors, through the provision of quality service and information. This one day workshop is for people working within the marine leisure sector, such as marina and watersports staff, people in frontline tourism businesses such as accommodation establishments, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions located near to areas of sailing and watersports activity. Children Welcome Some tourism businesses welcome children and others attract children by accident or design, and sometimes the parents wish they hadn’t taken them in the first place! This is tomorrow’s market today and doing it well can be profitable. Anglers Welcome Visitors who enjoy fishing like to be made to feel welcome - they appreciate having storage boxes for rods; a daily weather forecast; freezer facility for bait or catch; facilities for gutting or preparing catch, or facilities for washing fishing tackle. Equally important is the local knowledge of where to fish. We need to ensure that the hospitality encountered by our visiting anglers meets, or preferably exceeds, their expectations. This one day workshop is for frontline tourism operators, in particular accommodation providers, keen to attract visiting Anglers. The workshop complements the QA Anglers Welcome Scheme. Film Crews Welcome Developed by Tourist Board Training along with VisitScotland and Scotland's Film Officers to assist the tourism industry to make the most of Scotland's attraction as a film-destination. This workshop is aimed at tourism operators keen to look after film crews working in their area and to provide an opportunity for businesses to identify together how they, individually and collectively as a community, can benefit from this valuable income to Scotland.
