Scottish Tourism Week

Launch of First Scottish Tourism Week: 27 – 31 March 2006
The Scottish Tourism Forum (STF) introduces the first Scottish Tourism Week, a 5-day series of events for tourism businesses from 27 – 31 March 2006. The week is aimed at raising the awareness of tourism as Scotland’s most important and most sustainable industry.

Scottish Tourism Week has been developed to bring the private sector, public sector and the elected sector together under one positive agenda: how we can work together to drive forward tourism in Scotland. To succeed in the future, we must create a positive political climate for growth in tourism that will in turn support and attract greater levels of private investment.

It is hoped that, if we can get more people talking about the importance of tourism and have tourism embedded in political thinking in Scotland, we will have a better chance of growing our industry into a true world beater.

Business events that seek to add value to your business include: industry workshops looking at e-commerce development for tourism, Local Action Group partnerships, web development & marketing, customer service and skills, innovation in tourism, Scotland’s international position, and collaborative opportunities.

MSPs grasp the ‘Challenge’
Over a quarter of MSPs have taken up the challenge to go to the coal face and hear at first hand from tourism businesses during the first ever Scottish Tourism Week.

Politicians have offered to engage with our businesses to reinforce tourism as Scotland’s key sustainable industry for the future, with the MSPs Challenge on Friday 31 March to encourage MSPs to visit local tourism businesses in their constituency, and an STF industry reception at Scottish Parliament on 29 March.
