Radisson SAS Hotel, Glasgow

The Green Tourism Business Scheme
How the Radisson SAS Hotel, Glasgow has benefitted

Opened in November 2002 and the newest of the International hotel chains in Glasgow, the purpose-built Radisson SAS Hotel has positive environmental practice at the very heart of its daily operations.

One of the main aims of the Radisson SAS Responsible Business programme is to reduce its negative impact on the environment. Employees are dedicated to the company’s environmental policy and take great pride in their efforts to reduce waste.

New Radisson SAS employees are immediately introduced to a ‘Green culture’ as a two hour responsible business training session is a mandatory part of their induction. They are also entitled to free travel passes to encourage the use of public transport.

Radisson SAS want their customers to visit them with a clear environmental conscience and provide folders in every room outlining their Responsible Business policy. Posters are positioned around the hotel to raise awareness of how guests can contribute to the environmental effort during their stay.

By diligently undertaking tasks like: cardboard bailing, glass and aluminium can recycling, paper recycling and even

battery recycling, Radisson SAS has lowered its waste disposal costs significantly. By presenting customers their bills on monitors at reception instead of printing them, they save hundreds of sheets of paper and subsequently printer and paper costs on a daily basis.

Their energy saving efforts include encouraging kitchen staff to save gas, using energy saving light bulbs and water conservation. These practices have lowered overheads at Radisson SAS and contributed to them receiving the Gold award under the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
