The report is a detailed assessment of where your business is at the time of the visit.
Many participants in the scheme are happy to look at the report, ascertain they have attained/retained their star level and file it away.
For well-established businesses, scoring comfortably and consistently within a grading band over a period of time, this is understandable.
However, for newer businesses and new entrants, businesses with quality issues to address and businesses needing and/or wanting to improve, the report can be used effectively in several ways as a tool to improve your business performance:
- As a lever to motivate and encourage staff
- To take to your bank manager to justify borrowing money for improvements
- As an indicator of where to prioritise improvements in working practices
- As a pointer where to invest in capital projects
- As a template for staff and management training
- As a detailed illustration of where to spend money to achieve a higher grade if desired
- As a benchmark of your own performance as a manager/owner
Used year on year, the reports can offer a clear picture of progress within the quality grading bands or from one grading award to another, charting the progress in a clear and detailed manner.
Standards and targets to achieve can be set by taking one year’s report as a benchmark and resolving to improve the scores. Taken separately, each section can be tackled to achieve an overall higher score.
