Skills and Training

With increased investment, the Quality & Standards department will continue to focus on skills and training.

While the primary public sector remit in this area lies with the Enterprise Networks, Quality & Standards will continue to advocate the importance of skills and training as a prerequisite to raising quality and standards in tourism.

Specifically, the department will:

  • Look to factoring skills and training issues into the Quality Assurance assessment process by extending the demonstrator project throughout all schemes
  • Ensure Quality Advisors and enterprise network business advisors integrate their activities to promote training and development
  • Work closely with tourism businesses, enterprise networks, People 1st, Springboard, Colleges, and Tourist Board Training to assess industry skills and training needs, and ensure delivery of useful training
  • Work closely with enterprise networks and others concerned with skills and training policies and programmes

Training is crucial to the success of any tourism-related business.

The key to effective staff development and training is to link it directly to your business objectives. Businesses which invest in their staff can improve their performance through:

  • Better standards of service
  • Increased customer satisfaction
  • Increased repeat business
